Maria’s interest in the arts began at a young age of six, starting with the violin. From preschool to college, she has played in numerous chamber groups, symphonies, and has preformed many solo works. Although her interest in fine arts was active growing-up, her focus was on playing violin whenever she could. During her college years at Oregon State University, Maria took an abundance of fine art courses from drawing to painting. From these courses, Maria realized that her interest in fine arts was out-weighing her interest in music.

After college, though, her career path veered away from fine arts to musical instrument repair. She continued this path for the next 4 years until her interest in repair became mundane and tedious. With a gift of an easel, some oil paints and canvases Maria began painting. She has studied with well-known artists as: Berkeley Chappell, Pam Ingalls, Sandra Brooke and Jennifer Alfredson.

Maria resides in Somerville Massachusetts and is currently a member of the Cambridge Art Association, Concord Art Association, and LynnArts Association. Along with appearing on the Boston Neighborhood Network Program, she has won Juror’s Choice award, has been featured in Art New England Magazine and her work has been published in Hooked on Painting by Sandra Brooke.
Maria continues to paint with thick applications of paint with all shapes and sized palette knives. Her intense range of color usage makes the work interesting in itself along with the subject matter at hand. She enjoys how light falls on objects and what happens to how the colors change as the light hits the objects and  surroundings.
